Glenda May Jackson CBE, born at 151 Market Street, Birkenhead, Cheshire, England, UK on 9th May 1936 was an actress & politician, who's one of the few with the American Triple Crown of Acting, having won 2 Academy Awards, 3 Emmy Awards and a Tony Award. As member of the British Labour Party, she served continuously as a Member of Parliament (MP) for 23 years, first for Hampstead & Highgate from 1992 - 2010 then Hampstead and Kilburn following boundary changes, from 2010 to 2015. Glenda won the Academy Award for Best Actress twice, for the romance movies Women in Love (1970) then A Touch of Class (1973), but didn't appear in person to collect either due to work commitments. She also won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Sunday Bloody Sunday (1971). Her other pictures include Mary, Queen of Scots (1971), Hedda (1975), The Incredible Sarah (1976), Stevie (1978) & Hopscotch (1980). Jackson won 2 Primetime Emmy Awards for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth I in the BBC series Elizabeth R (1971). She lifted both the British Academy Television Award for Best Actress and International Emmy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Elizabeth Is Missing (2019). Glenda studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, making her Broadway debut in Marat/Sade (1966). She received 5 Laurence Olivier Award nominations for her West End roles in Stevie (1977), Antony & Cleopatra (1979), Rose (1980), Strange Interlude (1984) and King Lear (2016), the last being her 1st role after a 25-yr absence from acting, which she reprised on Broadway during 2019. Jackson won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play for her role in the revival of Edward Albee's Three Tall Women (2018). She stopped acting during her political career from 1992 to 2015, having been elected MP for Hampstead & Highgate at the general election of 1992. Glenda was a junior transport minister from 1997 - 1999 during the first government of Tony Blair but later became critical of him. Following constituency boundary changes, she represented Hampstead and Kilburn from 2010. At the general election of 2010, her majority of 42 votes, confirmed after a recount, was the narrowest margin of victory in the country. Jackson stood down at the general election of 2015 to return to acting.
