Information Systems: for accounting students

An introduction to computers, hardware and software, audit, data analytics and database management for accounting students. Commencing with the most basic descriptions, the student is taken on a journey into accounting information systems, data flow, treatment and processing, through security, privacy and automation. The system development lifecycle is explored in detail from an accountant's viewpoint. Microsoft Excel as applied to accounting is given detailed treatment, followed by an introduction to databases, the database design process and relational schemata. Every chapter is accompanied by multiple choice questions to test understanding. Although originally written for the University of British Columbia BUSI335 course "Information Systems", the content is of wider application.
