Sexuality: an education in self-esteem

Sexuality undergoes a major shift in the psychological development of adolescents, and consequently shapes their personalities. During this emotional process, social relationships, particularly with peers, self-esteem, self-assertion, friendship, love, body image, pressure from others, the development of critical thinking, respect for intimacy and modesty, a sense of humor, empathy, pleasure, knowledge of one's body, taking charge of one's sexual health, problem-solving skills and personal sensitivity acquire great importance. Educators therefore need to learn how to communicate effectively with teenagers, listen to them actively, and pay attention to all the changes they undergo as they grow towards self-realization.
