Art meets architecture: Bettina Cohnen brings together East and West
as well as combining a photo essay and photographic art in ''Duett der
Moderne''. In her photo series, she shows people in the famous post-war
Berlin neighbourhoods of Karl-Marx-Allee and the Hansaviertel in their
surroundings, with all their complexity and intimacy. At the same time,
she traces the idea behind the respective architecture. After all, the
essential concern of modernist architects was good and affordable
housing for everyone. This applied as from 1950 to the planning of the
'Sozialistische Stra e' and later Karl-Marx-Allee in East Berlin as well
as to the new Hansaviertel in West Berlin in 1957. Today, the rivalry
between the systems has turned into a duet: a duo uniting East and West.
The catalogue for the exhibition ''Duett der Moderne'' combines photo
essay and photographic art, the mediation of architectural culture, and
the living history of monuments.

Kunst trifft Architektur: Bettina Cohnen bringt in "Duett der Moderne" Ost und West sowie Fotoessay und Fotokunst zusammen. In den Bildserien zeigt sie Menschen in den bermten Berliner Nachkriegsquartieren der Karl-Marx-Allee und des Hansaviertels in ihren R酳men, ihrer Komplexit酹 und Intimit酹. Zugleich spt sie der Idee der jeweiligen Architektur nach. Denn das zentrale Anliegen der Baumeister der Moderne waren gute und bezahlbare Wohnungen f alle. Dies galt ab 1950 f die Planung der "Sozialistischen Stra e" und sp酹eren Karl-Marx-Allee in Ost-Berlin ebenso wie f das neue Hansaviertel 1957 in West-Berlin. Aus der Rivalit酹 der Systeme ist heute ein Duett geworden. Ein Duo, in dem Ost und West vereint sind. Der Katalog zur Ausstellung "Duett der Moderne" verbindet Fotoessay und Fotokunst, Baukulturvermittlung und gelebte Denkmalgeschichte.
