THE AGONY OF AN UNFINISHED PROJECTFor which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he has sufficient to finish it? Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, Saying, this man began to build, and was not able to finish Luke 14:28-30 BEGIN...start...commence...open...
There's something refreshing and optimistic about these words, whether they refer to the dawn of a new day, the birth of a child, the prelude of a symphony, or the first mile of a family vacation. Free of problems and full of promises, stir hope and imaginative visions of the future.
It is always beautiful to begin. Everything we can see has its beginning. Every building project has its beginning in the foundation. Every academic degree has its beginning at the entry point of admission. Even the journey of a thousand miles must of necessity begin with a step. Everything and anything that must grow must have a beginning. Beginnings are good and very important to every life project.
However, it not enough to start. Starting is easy, but finishing is hard. We've all been there - filled with excitement and determination, we embark on a new project, a new goal, a new dream. But somehow, along the way, our enthusiasm wanes, our motivation dwindles, and our dreams remain unfinished.
The agony of starting but not finishing is a unique kind of pain. It's the pain of potential unfulfilled, of possibilities unexplored, of promises unkept. It's the pain of knowing what could have been, if only we had persevered.
There is no point, profit or pleasure in starting but not finishing. Whatever a man starts and does not finish amounts to WASTE-waste of time, talent, and treasure. Resources invested are unusable, irretrievable, non-functional. Unfinished projects attract mockery. This is the pain and the agony that unfinished project leaves in its trail.
But why do we fail to finish what we start? Is it fear of failure? Fear of success? Lack of discipline? Lack of direction? Whatever the reason, the result is the same - a trail of unfinished projects, unfulfilled dreams, and unspent potential.
Yet, it's never too late to revive our dreams, to rekindle our passion, and to finish what we started. Let us embrace the agony of unfinished dreams as a reminder that our best work is still ahead of us. Let us find the courage to start again, to finish what we started, and to turn our dreams into reality.
