Taxes 101 is the precursor to Geezernomics, a novel about a family caught up in the politics of taxes. This work explores how European based societies have approached taxation since the Dark Ages. I then take a look at how we can emerge from the dark, into the light of understanding what we pay in taxes and what those taxes pay for, a well as who pays the taxes.
Economists have noted that in the United States that the wealth get less for each tax dollar paid than the poor. I challenge this notion; pointing out that the system (our form of capitalism) benefits the winners far more than all others. I also point out that the highest tax rates are paid by our first responders, including police, fire and rescue, military, and health care personnel; also noting that those who give their lives for the rest of us have paid the ultimate tax rate and their families should be exempt from further taxation.
I, obviously, am not the first to write about 'fair taxation', there is a book entitled as such, though what they propose is hardly fair, since the poorest of us will support the rest of us. The proposals in this book, if enacted in its entirety, would not only be fair, you would know exactly how much you personally are paying for each line item on the government's budget. Balancing the budget would not involve thousands of pages of tax law.
If you get a few minutes, and care about what you pay, please take a look inside.
