Three years after the release of his debut collection,
A Remedy Of Words: Mental Health Poetry, poet Martin Rodrigo Wagmaister returns with his new book,
Love In The Time Of Mental Health. Wagmaister points out that this effort is a more "mature collection of poetry that I think people of all ages, cultures and beliefs will connect with. Poetry is relative and subjective and while one poem may not apply to someone, the next page might be life-changing for them. Maybe in another time and place in their life, that same poem that didn't apply may become completely understandable. That's the beauty of this art---through all of the superficial substance that we face on the surface in building positive and loving relationships, a poem can connect us regardless of all of that."
Rather than writing about misunderstanding what he was going through like in his first book,
Love In The Time Of Mental Health shows Wagmaister dealing with the global epidemic at a more educated level, understanding that what he deals with is not only a part of who he is, but what has led him to become a better person to himself and to others. Wagmaister said, "The mission of this project remains the same as the first one---this gift I've been given to express myself through poetry is doing my part to make sure people going through what I went through never have to go through it as painfully and as confused as I did."
