This historical novel spans the reigns of the Roman Caesars, from Tiberius through Nero. It tells the story of the fledgling early church and how it was impacted by Roman law and rule. The Apostle Paul traveled extensively throughout the Roman world, visiting major cities and fearlessly proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the heart of pagan culture.
He endured hunger, stoning, imprisonment, flogging, beatings, shipwrecks-three times-and constant threats from bandits. Yet through all these hardships, he courageously and unwaveringly defended his message and his God-given calling. Interwoven throughout the pages of this novel are two Roman soldiers, Marcos and Gaius, who patrol the walls of Jerusalem and observe, from a Roman perspective, the unfolding events in the Jewish world. They witness the persecutions led by Saul and, later, the dramatic transformation in his life. Eventually, influenced by the profound change they see in Paul, they come to know the Christ he serves.
This deeply human portrayal of Paul, set against the electrifying and often perilous world in which he and the early church lived, will keep readers on edge-eager to see what happens next.
