Fleeing with her family to Warsaw, they seek refuge in a city that proves just as dangerous as the one they left behind. There, she meets Daniel, an eleven-year-old boy with a defiant smile and a brave gaze. As months pass, their innocent friendship blossoms into the spark of first love, helping them stay alive while the world around them collapses.

When Hitler's forces seize control of the city, the cruelty of the Nazi regime threatens to tear them apart. But they are not alone. Through friendships with other children they meet along the way, they will attempt to resist within the Warsaw Ghetto.
