This paper deals with people with colorectal cancer who subsequently require an enterostomy. It focuses specifically on stoma management, possible complications of a stoma, the experience of bowel cancer, stress during and after cancer treatment, and lifestyle changes and restrictions. The patient group described poses a major challenge for nursing staff, as cancer and an enterostoma lead to changes in body image and numerous lifestyle changes due to social and physical limitations, which in turn place a strain on the psyche. It is important to provide holistic care for those affected and to respond to their numerous needs.
