'Fantasy on the Freischütz' by P. Taffanel in relation to the opera

Carl Maria von Weber's Der Freischz is a well-known opera in Europe, and Paul Taffanel, inspired by it, composed his Fantasia for Flute and Piano sur le Freischz. This thesis compares the two different works, Carl Maria von Weber's Der Freischz and Paul Taffanel's sur le Freischz. The themes presented and varied in the fantasy are described in terms of their characteristics and textual significance in the opera. Paul Taffanel's variation work 'sur le Freischz' is a highly virtuosic piece for flute and piano. This thesis analyses both versions of Der Freischz in terms of their historical background, content and musical differences. In summary, it concludes that there are differences from a flute-playing perspective.
