In the 1970s, a certain young writer had to supplement his income by doing part-time work for his brother, who had a painting firm maintaining public houses in the Angel Islington area of London. The work was not difficult but the life of a painter was interesting. Jerusalem Road is a fictionalised version of that life and the time in which it was set.
