The Book of Queenie: The Scale of Limbo

Queenie had never felt so weak. Every time she held a dagger, the chimera's eyes flashed in her mind. Every time she took a step forward, doubt ate at her heart. Every time she looked at Juliette...Queenie's soul turned to tar. She just wanted to curl up into a ball and cry. It was getting harder and harder to hide it from her friends, but the guilt kept clawing at her throat, demanding repentance.

Hush had noticed his sister's confidence diminish. Queenie was looking worse and worse with each passing day, and if Hush didn't do anything...her mentality would shatter to nothingness. Unfortunately, he had bigger things to worry about: like the constant barrage of mutants that kept slamming into Malapace's walls. It had been occurring for days: weeks, even. If the city did not find a solution, the walls of Malapace would fall.

Fortunately, and suspiciously, there was a solution: the soulscale. If the Misfits could get it...

Taba's head felt like it was going to split. Too many moving pieces were in motion: his friend's conditions, his allegiances with Malapace or the family, and the booming voice residing in Taba's head that seemed to mock him every-so often. Taba needed to be decisive. The longer he hesitated on anything, the worse things would get for either Malapace or the Family.

It was time to act: even if it meant that he was dancing to someone else's tune.
