Health Literacy Toolkit Guide for School Children in Nigeria

Health literacy has become integral in health education in cases when the challenges of public health are combined with a lack of access to quality healthcare information. Nigeria, with the largest population of children under 10 in Africa, is struggling with both burdens of communicable and non-communicable diseases, or CDs and NCDs respectively, further exacerbated by gaps in basic health knowledge. The Health Literacy Toolkit for Primary School Pupils in Nigeria was thus conceived as a comprehensive toolkit that aims at equipping children, parents, caregivers, and educators with basic knowledge and skills that would help them foster health and prevent diseases.This book deals with the most paramount challenges facing Nigerian primary schools: health literacy among young students and their immediate structures of support. Health literacy is more than the knowledge of diseases; it is learning to live healthily, making appropriate decisions, and developing behaviors that will prevent illness. This toolkit was developed to introduce basic health concepts to children that will serve them for a lifetime.
