商品簡介

The Adventures of Daniel "Danny" Nunes Trilogy by Richard M. Eunice, is a work of historical fiction that follows the lifelong odyssey of a Georgia frontiersman as he journeys from the southern swamps to the ends of the earth. Set in the early to mid-19th century, the trilogy explores themes of survival, heritage, and the "resilient spirit" of a man who becomes a legendary tracker.

Trilogy Structure

The manuscript is divided into three distinct books, each documenting a major era in Danny Nunes's life:

  • Book 1: The Blackwater Chronicles Set in 1810 Waycross, Georgia, this volume introduces a thirteen-year-old Danny as he learns the dangerous lessons of the Satilla River. It depicts his transition from a boy with a "wandering spirit" to a young man of the frontier, ending with his first major tests of character and survival in the local swamps.
  • Book 2: The Arctic Debt In this installment, a grown Danny seeks to save his family from drowning in post-war debt by joining the British Royal Navy's expedition to the Polar Sea. Serving under Captain John Franklin, Danny must apply his Georgia-born wilderness skills to survive -50 F temperatures, starvation, and the treacherous "Barren Lands".
  • Book 3: The Southern Star The final volume follows a forty-one-year-old Danny as he is recruited for the United States Exploring Expedition to the Antarctic and the South Pacific. Accompanied by his son Alexander, Danny faces the "White Terror" of the southern ice and the violent conflicts of the Fijian islands, ultimately grappling with the moral cost of discovery and the leadership of Commander Charles Wilkes.
Key Themes & Narrative Style
  • The Nature of Survival: The narrative emphasizes that survival is a matter of instinct and "heart" rather than just skill. Danny often finds himself at odds with "civilized" authorities-like schoolmasters or naval officers-who rely on maps and regulations while Danny relies on the "truth" of the dirt and the water.
  • Legacy and Family: A central thread throughout the manuscript is Danny's commitment to his family, from his parents in Georgia to his son Alexander. The trilogy concludes with Danny reflecting on his journeys and writing The Resilient Spirit, a personal manual on survival for future generations.
  • Historical Setting: The work features historical figures such as John Franklin, George Back, and Charles Wilkes, placing the fictional Nunes family within real-world 19th-century maritime expeditions.
