Two people who once shared a secret on-again-off-again romance have one last chance to recapture the magic when their college friend group revives their annual summer getaway tradition for the final time at the beach where they first fell in love.
After graduation, a group of college friends decide to start a tradition–every June, they’ll take a trip together to the California coast to kick off the summer. That first trip, following a heartbreak and in a cheap-wine-fueled haze, they make an agreement: none of them will ever date each other.
It should be a simple enough rule to follow. Except Everett and Sutton, technically, already broke it. They’re not going to tell anyone what happened, and they’re definitely not going to tell anyone that they keep breaking it, summer after summer, when the group returns to that same place where everyone first made the promise the two of them have been so bad at keeping.
Their secret can’t stay buried forever, though, and when things fall apart between them in front of their friends, it’s the end of the summer trip as they know it.
Four years later, the group doesn’t need to worry about dating each other, because they hardly have time to text, let alone vacation together every year. But when one of the friends, in the wake of her high-profile divorce, calls the others back to the coast to recreate their tradition, everyone wants to be there for her.
Everett and Sutton haven’t seen each other in years, for good reason. But making it through the week turns out to be harder than either of them anticipated, made only worse when their friends have to remind them why the pact existed in the first place because they can’t stop bickering. Neither wants to be the reason the group splits apart again, and so they agree to set past hurts aside, support their friend, and just get through this trip. But as the days start to stretch on, it becomes harder and harder to remember what tore them apart in the first place…
