Yo, Pastor! is in the house.
Many years ago, as I set out to establish a church
splant in Inglewood, California-the often-lethal, oxymoronic combination of a church split and a new church plant-I was searching for a way to engage the people in thoughtful reflection about Christian living without clubbing them over the head with a long list of dos and don'ts.
This was the soil into which the Holy Spirit tossed the seed for a no holds barred Christian advice column run weekly in
F4 Magazine, the new church's full color, 16-page Sunday bulletin.
The congregation quickly embraced the idea.
Anonymous questions began piling up in the offering baskets each Sunday morning, and before long I had more questions to answer than space to print the answers. People wanted practical, biblical guidance on real-life issues-relationships, marriage, finances, forgiveness, temptation, church life, and everything in between.
During our first year as
Food for Faith Fellowship International, I selected and answered seventy challenging questions, sometimes squeezing two answers into a single column. No topic was off-limits. If people were asking it, I was willing to address it through the lens of Scripture.
This book delivers those original 70 thorny questions, and their controversial biblical answers, for your enjoyment and spiritual edification.
My prayer is that as you read them, you will find biblical wisdom, practical insight, and perhaps even a few smiles along the way. Most of all, I pray that these pages will encourage you to grow closer to God and live more faithfully in a complicated world.
