Never the Plan is a deeply honest and thought-provoking memoir about what happens when life takes you somewhere you never expected to go.

For much of her life, Fleur Bryant believed strength meant pushing harder. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy as a child, she learnt early how to hide her struggles, constantly striving to prove herself through achievement, independence, and determination. From international sailing competitions to career success, she built a life around overcoming limitations and appearing capable enough that nobody would notice what she was fighting so hard to conceal.

Then motherhood changed everything, leading Fleur on a journey that would challenge, shape, and ultimately redefine her understanding of what was possible.

When her son Toby also began struggling to walk, while simultaneously losing the ability to read and write, Fleur found herself thrown into a world of uncertainty, medical appointments, and unanswered questions that would eventually lead to the devastating diagnosis of Adrenoleukodystrophy, a rare and terminal neurological genetic disease. At the same time, Fleur was also confronting the reality that her own condition had been misunderstood for years and that her mobility was deteriorating too.

But through Toby-her stubbornly determined and fun-loving eight-year-old son, living with a terminal illness-Fleur began to question everything she thought she knew about strength, resilience, and what it truly means to live a meaningful life.
