自從《支持性心理治療臨床手冊 (Clinical Manual of Supportive Psychotherapy)》 出版至今已經過一個世代。從那時起，我們有幸得以利用這本手冊訓練精神科住院醫師與實習治療師，即使是 25 年前背景下的知識目前仍然有效且精確。我們的原作者之一 Rojcewicz 博士並未參與這個版本，不過他促成第一個版本的智慧與敏銳仍然可在許多地方找到，特別是在歷史議題與思覺失調症的章節。然而我們更高興有高級執業護理師 Virginia Singer, D.N.P., PMHNP-BC, CARN-AP 作為主要作者，而我們的臨床心理師同事 Victor Chavira, Ph.D. 則參與了焦慮症這個特殊章節。因此大部分你所看到的資料都是全新或修訂過的（包括許多嶄新的臨床花絮），不過我們也保留了許多「好的舊零件」，它們和過去一樣有效。　治療師不再把支持性心理治療視為精神分析的棄子，或者僅將其用於嚴重障礙的精神科住院病人（被認為沒有足夠的病識感可以了解其潛意識心理程序）。支持性心理治療已經被視為精神科住院醫師訓練所需的重要心理治療之一。支持性技巧也構成大部分其他心理治療之基礎，以至於支持 (support) 不僅出現在支持性心理治療，也出現在其他不斷激增的「心理治療」〔雖然這 400 種裡有些即將消失或者被「禁止 (proscribed)」而非被「開立 (prescribed)」〕。　肯定的是，經過這些年來已經有了許多改變，但也有許多保持不變。不變的是本書的基本架構，從描述技巧開始，接著把治療應用到特定的精神疾病，在最後兩個部分是特殊的調整與交互作用，以及用於特定情境。針對支持性心理治療的學術文獻已經快速增加，我們也發現了涵蓋特定族群與技巧議題的許多文章。和過去一樣，我們都是實務上的臨床醫師而不是學術派的研究者，不過我們已經嘗試著參考值得進一步閱讀的相關文獻。　令人驚訝地（而且也是你正在看這本新版的原因），並沒有針對這個主題的近期教科書，除了大家所熟知的入門書《學習支持性心理治療 (Learning Supportive Psychotherapy)》（也是美國精神醫學會所出版）。雖然該書作者使用大量的案例呈現與技巧討論，我們仍嘗試維持使用技巧導向與疾病導向呈現，以及使用簡短案例花絮 (brief vignettes) 來呈現重點。我們已經簡
