A catalog-cum-genealogical record introduces the clay works of Rose B. Simpson, who derives inspiration from matrilineal traditionsThis gorgeously produced monograph presents the work of the New Mexico-based mixed-media artist Rose B. Simpson (born 1983). Informed by three maternal generations of ceramicists, Simpson creates androgynous clay figures that tackle the emotional and existential impacts of living in a postmodern and postcolonial world. The volume explores Simpson's artistic evolution and examines the influence of Indigenous ceramic traditions passed down by her mother, Roxanne Swentzell, her grandmother, Rina Swentzell, and her great-grandmother, Gia Rose Naranjo. Weaving together object plates, family photographs and installation images, the hardcover publication features a coated fabric casing and Swiss binding. Creative writing by Simpson and essays by her relatives are accompanied by scholarly texts from Arden Sherman, Pamela Solares, Beata Tsosie-Pena and Ghislain d'Hu

Engaging with contemporary debates about the sources that shape our understanding of the early Muslim world, Najam Haider proposes a new model for Muslim historical writing that draws on Late Antique historiography to challenge the imposition of modern notions of history on a pre-modern society. Haider discusses three key case studies - the revolt of Mukhtar b. Abi 'Ubayd (d. 67/687), the life of the Twelver Shi'i Imam Musa al-Kazim (d. 183/799) and the rebellion and subsequent death of the Zaydi Shi'i Imam Yahya b. 'Abd Allah (d. 187/803) - in calling for a new line of inquiry which focuses on larger historiographical questions. What were the rules that governed historical writing in the early Muslim world? What were the intended audiences for these works? In the process, he rejects artificial divisions between Sunni and Shi'i historical writing.

The fragile Antarctic environment consists of a closely linked system of the lithosphere, atmosphere, cryosphere, hydrosphere and biosphere. Changes in this system have influenced global climate, oceanography and sea level for most of Cenozoic time. The geological history of this region therefore provides a special record of important interactions between the various components of the Earth System. Antarctic Marine Geology is a comprehensive single-authored book to introduce students and researchers to the geological history of the region and the unique processes that occur there. Research literature on the region is widely disseminated. The book is intended as a reference for all scientists working in Antarctica, and will also serve as a textbook for graduate courses in Antarctic marine geology.
