任教於政大歷史系期間，我参加了當時「政大人文研究中心」的專題計畫，與研究歴史上胡漢異同和胡漢互動有關課題的一些校内外老師，和中研院史語所等學術機構的學者定期聚會。聚會期間，除了聽取各位專家學者報告各自研究的不同課題的進展情況和取得的成果之外，常常就中國歷代的中原體制與邊陲的諸多胡漢族群的互動如何促進中華意識的形成、改朝換代時期一些名流面對民族認同(ethnic identity)問題如何表態、個人的社會地位如何產生名分等問題，定期在學術會議上進行交流。這段期間，我追隨各位師友從事與我原來專業相關的課題研究，也寫出幾篇文章，論述隋唐以來中原與内陸亞洲的遊牧族群互動、胡漢認同和確定名分秩序、邊民在內地、清代内地長官在邊陲等問題，形成了這本文集的主體部分。此次增訂版主要增收「唐宋變革」論文一篇〈征服者與統治者：十世紀以降中國中原與北方草原諸政權間的抗爭和互動之複雜性〉，以及添加〈總序〉及〈徵引文獻〉，並刪除初版書末的三篇訪談，以與前三冊編輯體例趨於一致。——張廣達

In this open access book, Carlos Montemayor illuminates the development of artificial intelligence (AI) by examining our drive to live a dignified life. He uses the notions of agency and attention to consider our pursuit of what is important. His method shows how the best way to guarantee value alignment between humans and potentially intelligent machines is through attention routines that satisfy similar needs.Setting out a theoretical framework for AI Montemayor acknowledges its legal, moral, and political implications and takes into account how epistemic agency differs from moral agency.
