編寫本教程的語言教學理論依據是任務型教學法、交際法以及圖式理論。本教程共包含14個單元，每個單元圍繞一個主題展開。首先通過“導學”引入話題，并提供與話題相關的背景知識。其后分為三個板塊：Warmingup Activities部分由兩個視聽片段組成，目的是為后面的任務型教學活動做準備；Videobased Activities部分圍繞三至四個視頻材料開展教學活動，要求學生聽懂視頻材料的內容，掌握相關表達；Further Activities部分提供略長的視聽片段，幫助學生擴展思路，鞏固擴展與主題相關的語言表達。書后提供練習答案和文字腳本以方便學生自主學習。
