Muslim Diaspora in the West: Negotiating Gender, Home and Belonging

Arising from two conferences held in Toronto and Amsterdam in 2006 and 2008, this volume contains 13 contributions by academics involved with anthropology, diversity and culture, social work, religious studies, and political science--as well as human rights workers and independent scholars. Arrangement is according to four broad themes pertaining to the Muslim diaspora in general and in the Netherlands, Sweden, Canada, and Britain. The four themes are as follows: women's agency (emancipation, leadership, feminist consciousness); shifting notions of sexuality and family; youth; and "diasporic space and locating space." Editors Moghissi (sociology and political science, York U.
