Spivak (University Professor at Columbia U., New York) authored a new foreword for this new printing of her 1993 collection of 12 essays and one interview transcript that, while treating diverse topics in academia and postcoloniality in culture, are unified under the author's consideration of "academic agency" in enforcing the goals of marginality studies. The author's meditations include lively deconstructions of Focault, Marx, and Jacques Derrida, as well as of Salman Rushdie's The Satanic Verses and the works of de Beauvoir and other French feminists.
