Transnational Perspectives on Culture, Policy, and Education: Redirecting Cultural Studies in Neoliberal Times

Sixteen international academics from a wide range of disciplines--sociology, anthropology, pedagogy, psychology, linguistics, communications studies, and English philology--contribute 15 chapters examining world-hegemonic engagements with culture in all spheres of contemporary life--personal, public, popular, institutional--to uncover points of articulation across cultures that promote social justice in these new times of popular culture and public policy dominated by neoliberalism and the continual expansion of corporatism and re-feudalization of the public sphere. Key themes explored include problematizing conceptions and constructions of culture and identity; transnational cultural policy, global neoliberalism, and racism; the complexities and implications of education as a modern institution; and the role of education in the reproduction or transformation of diverse cultural dynamics.
