Student Teaching and the Law

This reference for students and their mentors uses accessible language to explain the law regarding student teachers who will teach at university and K-12 levels. The first part of the book offers a legal primer on student teaching and the law. The second part, the bulk of the book, provides a synthesis of various state laws specific to student teaching and analyzes court decisions concerning student teachers and student teaching. The last part of the book provides resource appendices, including charts of relevant statutes and case law, case scenarios with discussion questions, a glossary of acronyms, abbreviations, and legal terms, and a list of print resources, organizations, and web sites. Zirkel is professor of education and law at Lehigh University. Karanxha is assistant professor of educational leadership and policy studies at the University of South Florida. Perry A. Zirkel is university professor of education and law at Lehigh University. Past president of the Education Law Association, he has written more than 1,200 publications, primarily on legal issues concerning KD12 schooling. Zorka Karanxha is assistant professor of educational leadership and policy studies at the University of South Florida. Her research interests include charter schools and education law.
