商品簡介
Bennett (religious studies, State U. of New York) examines the role of religion in three global conflicts and uses various post-modern theories to argue that religious beliefs tend to support conflict rather than peaceful mediation. Written for general readers as well as students, this volume describes the religious contexts for the Bosnian, Northern Ireland and Israel-Palestine conflicts and highlights the human errors in the translation of the scriptures that lead to violence due to the insistence of a "moral high ground." The author ultimately challenges those post-modern theories that support the idea of validity to all interpretations and maintains that peace can only be achieved when organized religion no longer acts as a mediator.
