商品簡介
Leaving out the mixed animals like griffins to focus solely on human-animals, such as sphinxes, satyrs, centaurs, and Gorgons, this handsome exhibition catalogue examines the history and nature of these popular mythical creatures in Greek art. Padgett (curator of ancient art, Princeton U. Art Museum), William A.P. Childs (art and archaeology, Princeton U.), and Despoina Tsiafakis (archaeology, Cultural and Educational Technology Institute, Xanthi, Greece) have contributed three essays and, along with other specialists, written the extensive catalogue entries for 100 works selected for the exhibition, which was held at the Princeton U. Art Gallery and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston in 2004. The volume, which is slightly oversize at 9.5x12.5", is well illustrated with color plates of excellent quality.
