Music and Gender

Exploring the ways music relates to views and values concerning gender identities, Music and Gender presents cross-cultural studies of how the uses and descriptions of both folk music and art music shift in response to rapid political, economic, or technological change.Case studies from the Central African Republic, rural Finland, and Turkey address issues of how gender is reflected in performance and how performance furthers other social goals.
