The Half Has Not Been Told

Often, there are many things that goes untold about raising a special needs children. Feelings are not expressed or explained. Stories are kept to a silent, "hush." The family members live day in and out with stories that never makes the news, never makes the newspapers, or a topic of general conversation. The stories, as many as there are, have not been told. Some of the stories are of embarrassment, some of laughter, some of tears, and some of struggles. Many of them are of joys, strengths, and victories. Many of them should be told. In The Half has not Been Told-Memoirs of my Destiny, Patricia Betts Tyus captures stories of things that has occurred over the years in the life of her daughter, Destini, diagnosed as special needs at the age of two years old. She shares the emotions that a mother experiences when she finds out that the child she sees as prefect is being labeled with titles that would alter the perception of anyone that hears them.
