Plagiarism, Intellectual Property and the Teaching of L2 Writing

Boch, an expert in rhetoric and writing education, examines plagiarism and intellectual property issues in the writing classroom. Chapter one explores plagiarism with a look toward the debates surrounding the issue as well as cultural perspectives and the interaction between plagiarism and technology. Chapter two explores the history, evolution, and legal aspects of intellectual property as well as how it differs from plagiarism. Chapter three connects the aforementioned subjects with teaching, while chapter four addresses pedagogy. Chapter five discusses ways in which metaphors can be used in the discussion of plagiarism and their inadequacies. Chapter six synthesizes these topics into classroom strategies. Joel Bloch has taught L2 writing for over 20 years in the United States, China, and Ukraine. He has an MA in literature from York University (Toronto), an MA in ESL education from the University of Michigan, and a PhD in rhetoric from Carnegie Mellon University. He currently teaches writing and theory courses at the Ohio State University. He has published ?
