Malekian (founder and director of the Institute of International Criminal Law, Sweden) describes the system of Islamic international criminal law in comparison with general international criminal law. His goal is to evaluate important provisions of each system in the context of the development of international criminal law and the International Criminal Court in order to demonstrate that the apparent conflicts and differences between the two legal systems may not be as significant as those working in both traditions have previously thought, whether because of ideological, political, and procedural reasons or because of specific misinterpretations of both legal systems. He argues that even though the two legal systems rest on different bases and methods of application, their aims in relation to equality of arms, states, nations, individuals, religions, cultures, races, languages, traditions, and ideologies are similar.
