Proceedings of the Boston Area Colloquium in Ancient Philosophy 2010

Seven papers, most with commentaries, from the academic year 2009-10 discuss a wide range of topics related to Parmenides, Plato, Aristotle, and Themistius. Some of them have been substantially revised in light of response to their presentation. They cover Themistius on soul and intellect in Aristotle's De Anima; the logical origins of Parmenides' monism; cosmic orientation in Aristotle's De Caelo; and the unity of Phantasia; Aristotle on the form and definition of a human being; psychology and legislation in Plato's Laws; and philosophy, virtue, and immortality in Plato's Phaedo. Gary M. Gurtler, S.J., is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Boston College. He has published on ancient philosophy, with special attention to Neoplatonism, including a book, Plotinus: The Experience of Unity (1988).William Wians is Professor of Philosophy at Merrimack College. He has edited five previous volumes of BACAP proceedings and written numerous articles and reviews on ancient philosophy.
