商品簡介
O'Connell (classics, U. of Utah) compares the fragmentary texts of Heraclitus to the thought of Jacques Derrida and finds surprising parallels, indicating that Derrida was at least informed and probably inspired more than has been hitherto thought by presocratic philosophy, especially in the areas of deconstruction, logocentrism and differance. O'Connor insists that the parallels go beyond content and include similar perspectives and questions and common poetic and rhetorical orientation. Although her intent is to introduce Heraclitus to students of Western philosophy and show his relevance to contemporary debates on language, reason and poetics, she also helps those struggling with Derridian thought to understand what drove Derrida to promote his unorthodox opinions with such certainty. The result is an illumination of both. Annotation c2006 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
