商品簡介
This book asks two key questions about the prominent influence of Japanese pop culture in regional East Asia. The first, concerning the reasons why Japanese pop culture has achieved such success, is answered with reference to the organizational mechanisms of commercialization, manufacture, and commodification, rather than in relation to any supposed essentialities embedded in Japanese culture. The second, addressing the ways in which the proliferation of Japanese pop culture is likely to affect the dynamics of East Asian regional formation, lays out a more theoretical argument about the relationship between cultural commodification and bottom-up regionalization involving increasing proximities between markets, institutions, and communities in the region that exist beyond the scope of states.
