Dr. V.K. Rajasekhar is a Senior Research Scientist at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA. Dr. Rajasekhar earned his MPhil and PhD degrees from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India, and has received competitive research awards from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany, and the Robert A. Welch Foundation, Texas. He has conducted research at MD Anderson Cancer Center, in Houston, University of California, Irvine, and at Humboldt University in Berlin, Germany and has undertaken collaborative research projects with investigators in Canada and Norway. He has published his research extensively in a variety of leading journals that has received thought-provoking previews in companion journals and also exceptional post-publication peer reviews by Faculty of 1000. Recently, Dr. Rajasekhar and his research team have identified a rare population of human prostate cancer stem cells with new biomarkers and a novel signaling pathway distinct from that found in bulk tumor tissues (http://www.Genomeweb.com). This approach has opened up new possibilities for live bio-banking of viable tumor tissues and cancer stem cells, facilitating discovery of novel biomarkers, and development of precise therapeutics to benefit cancer patients. He has taught undergraduate courses at the University of California, Irvine, a graduate lecture course at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and has also been an invited speaker and chair at numerous international conferences. Dr. Rajasekhar has served as a reviewer for several scientific journals, including Stem Cells, Proceedings of National Academy of Sciences USA, Journal of Molecular Biology, Journal of Cell Biology, Neoplasia, and PLoS One. In addition, he was the senior editor of Regulatory Networks in Stem Cells, one of the top 25% most downloaded eBooks in the Springer Life Sciences eBook Collection in 2012.
