The authors include sociologists, anthropologists, historians, social demographers, scholars of literature and linguistics, and a novelist; the theme is migration and its role in Canadian cultural dynamics. Twenty-six contributions discuss First Nations people living in several Canadian cities, Latin American immigrants in Montreal, young Austrian Jewish refugees in Canada, immigration in contemporary Canadian literature, and the ethical boundaries of asylum--among many other topics. Klaus-Dieter Ertler is Professor of Romance Languages and Literatures at the University of Graz (Austria). His main research interests include the Francophone novel, the Jesuit Relations of New France, and Systems Theory as an epistemological tool.
Patrick Imbert is Professor at the University of Ottawa and occupies a Research Chair on Canada: Social and Cultural Challenges in a Knowledge-Based Society. From 2005 to 2009 he has been director of the International American Studies Association and has been President of the Academy of Arts and Social Sciences of the Royal Society of Canada in 2009 (2009-2011).
Klaus-Dieter Ertler est professeur au Departement de litteratures romanes de l’Universite de Graz (Autriche). Ses recherches portent sur le roman francophone, les Relations des Jesuites des Ameriques, la litterature latino-americaine et la theorie des systemes comme modele epistemologique.
Patrick Imbert est professeur titulaire a l’Universite d’Ottawa et a une Chaire de recherche intitulee ? Canada : defis sociaux et culturels dans une societe du savoir ?. Il a ete directeur executif de l’International American Studies Association (2005-2009) et a ete elu President de l’Academie des arts et des sciences humaines de la Societe royale du Canada en 2009 (2009-2011).
