This volume is concerned with the specific question of what it means to be a woman in the context of the Korean-American church. Utilizing sociological methodologies as diverse as participant observation, interviews, and a review of historical documents, the author addresses four central issues: the role of religious institutions within ethnic communities; and the relative importance of gender and race-ethnicity in shaping the identities of women of color. By investigating the inter-relationships between religion, gender, race/ethnicity and social status, this study contributes to the fields of women's studies, race/ethnicity studies, and context-specific expressions of Christianity.
