Jennings explores the experience of exaltation as a response to music in two settings. One is a Pentecostal church that uses sound to help visitors break free from the world outside and encounter the divine. The other is the annual West Coast Blues and Roots festival in Freemantle, Western Australia. Doing field work using the method known as participant observation, he found that the two cases share the conjoined phenomenon of ecstasy and music. For each case in turn, he describes setting, then applies theology and religious studies approaches and socio-cultural approaches. Annotation c2014 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)
