商品簡介
Based on his analysis of core components of Aristotle's semantics as expounded in the Organon , de Rijk (emeritus, ancient and medieval philosophy, U. of Leiden) argues that the attribution of inconsistencies to the philosopher is due to modern misinterpretations of "prediction" as the key theme of his metaphysics rather than "existence." Via a running commentary on the work's main lines with the aid of quotation and paraphrase, the author seeks to remedy such faulty exegesis by analyzing statement-making at a deep structural level; rendering the underlying semantics more explicit; identifying categorization and focalization as the backbone of Aristotelian logic; and presenting further evidence for the consistency of his "semantic behavior." Translations are partly those of the author. Lacks an index. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
