Contentious Europeans ― Protest and Politics in an Integrating Europe

Seventeen international specialists contribute 11 essays examining the growing efforts of European citizens to influence the supranational level of European government through social movements, protest politics, and political action. Background information to the study is followed by an analysis of the ways ordinary citizens are responding to EU policies with contentious collective action. The authors suggest that the tolerance and encouragement of authorities towards citizen response through lobbying and other accepted formats act as a springboard for further forms of contentious action.
