商品簡介
A Finnish anthology of papers from an international team which aligns itself with critical theory and practice, this book is the first full-length publication of a research program called Media and Education in the Digital Age. It is part of a second wave of critical theory and emancipatory research about digital technologies in education. The first wave hailed digital technology as the destruction of institutional structures and the salvation of the people. This wave is more likely to see them with some suspicion, as tools of existing systems of authority with potential as democratic tools for social and institutional change. The volume presents itself as rejecting extreme approaches, focuses more on practical research than abstract theory, and defines the program's shared values in educational research: attention to authority structures, belief that research is not socially or politicially independent, and belief that the goal of education should be the improvement of individuals as individuals, rather than as better servants of systems, institutions, or structures.
