In this two-volume set, psychology, criminology, and other specialists from North America, Europe, and Australia describe the applications of psychology to law. The first volume, Individual and Situational Influences in Criminal and Civil Contexts, contains 16 chapters discussing forensic evaluation and treatment in criminal cases, including assessment instruments, risk assessment and communication, legal insanity and mens rea defenses, criminal competencies, mental health treatment, and capital case considerations; individual and situational predictors of criminal behavior, such as psychopathy and substance use, and sexual offending and intimate partner violence; and the application of forensic psychology in civil cases, including child custody and access, personal injury and other tort matters, employment discrimination, and civil competencies.
