商品簡介

"This fascinating collection provides a comprehensive coverage of the many issues raised by the globalization of science, technology, and innovation. The Handbook offers a very wide range of interesting perspectives on this subject from a most impressive array of contributors." John Cantwell, Rutgers University

"This excellent volume achieves a rare feat. It contains rigorous studies on the economics of innovation, while taking into account the shifting nature of global trends and governance structures in science, technology, and innovation across the world. Globalization is broken down into its key domains, rather than treated as a general feature. The deep and context-specific insights will allow policymakers interested in smart innovation-led growth to benefit from cutting-edge theory and highly relevant empirical analysis." Mariana Mazzucato, University of Sussex

"This impressive collection offers a timely and thought-provoking reappraisal of the key debates around the globalization of knowledge and its unequal distribution, including a series of sound implications in terms of global policy. The editors have very successfully managed to gather the most established and committed generation of scholars on the topic. A `must-read'." Maria Savona, University of Sussex

"Science and engineering have changed our world in critical ways. The economic scaffolding required, however, from new measurements to more effective regulation, is being tested to new limits. The Handbook offers a formidable array of authors and perspectives to take on this research challenge. The systematic evidence and arguments presented in the Handbook have the additional benefit of provoking us to consider what developing countries have to gain and lose in this brave new world."

This unique Handbook provides an overview of the globalization of science, technology, and innovation, including global trends in the way knowledge is produced and distributed, the development of institutions, and global policy. It shows how technological change and innovation are shaped by the role of emerging countries in the generation of science and technological knowledge, and transnational corporations, and how reforms in intellectual property rights and world trade have been affected by the increasingly international flows of knowledge, technology, and innovation.

The book provides an in-depth assessment of the themes and direction of science, technology, innovation, and public policy in an increasingly globalized world. With contributions from an international team of leading scholars, this cutting-edge reference work introduces readers to current debates about the role of science and technology in global society and the policy responses that shape its development.

Comprising 28 specially commissioned chapters, the Handbook addresses major trends in global policy, including a significant shift toward private scientific research, the change in the distribution of science and technical knowledge, and a heightened awareness among policymakers of the economic and technological impact of scientific activity. Accessibly written, it provides an invaluable one-stop reference for students, social researchers, scientists, and policymakers alike.
