The Poetry of Light ― Venetian Drawings from the National Gallery of Art, Washington

The extraordinary collection of Venetian drawings in the national Gallery of Art of Washington is presented for the first time in this book: a hundred and forty-four works by the greatest Venetian masters (from Mantegna to Bellini, from Titian to Veronese, from Tiepolo to Canaletto) and by renown American and British artists who drew inspiration from the city in the 19th century (Sargent and Whistler among others).

Andrew Robinson has been Senior curator of prints and drawings at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, since 1974. He has curated a large number of exhibitions, focusing in particular on art from 15th to 19th century. He’s the author of the monograph Piranesi. Early Architectural Fantasies (1986).
