Ethical Leadership in Schools ― Creating Community in an Environment of Accountability

As part of the Leadership for Learning initiative of the American Association of School Administrators--which aims to improve the skills and knowledge of school leaders--this volume discusses ethics in connection with good education, communities, and leadership. Strike (cultural foundations and philosophy, Syracuse U.) covers morality as well as accountability, arguing that educators need a coherent vision of what they want to provide and how they can provide it. Strike explores the goals of education and the idea of an intellectual community, constitutional essentials (intellectual liberty, freedom of religion, equality, and democracy), legitimate authority in terms of accountability, and ethical decision-making.
