Editor-in Chief Charles MacLean has been researching, writing, and lecturing on whiskey since 1981. He is the author of 10 books on the subject, including the standard work on whisky brands, Scotch Whisky and Malt Whisky, translated into nine languages. Both books were shortlisted for the Glenfiddich Food and Drink Awards. His book Whisky: A Liquid History won the James Beard Award for Wine & Spirit Book of the Year 2005 and was shortlisted for the André Simon Award for Best Drinks Book of the Year 2004. It also won the Best Drinks Book 2005 in the International Food Media Awards, regarded as one of the most prestigious US gastronomic prizes. Charles was elected a Keeper of the Quaich in 1992, the industry's highest accolade, for his services to whiskey over many years.
