The book deals with honour and honour related violence, its background and contexts, what honour is, and what it is not. It examines stigma in relation to honour and based upon stigma research, reliably explains, analyses, and predicts honour related violence. The book argues that people all over the world can be stigmatized, excluded and ostracized when they commit misbehaviour, and therefore find themselves in a state of dishonour which can lead to honour related violence. This is an essential resource for students and researcher in the fields of social psychology, sociology, law, criminology and anthropology.
Robert Ermers is a researcher at Radboud University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands. An arabist and turcologist, his first specialisation was his linguistics PhD (1995). Since 2007 he has written (in Dutch) about honour and honour related violence. He is an experienced and acclaimed trainer and consultant in matters of honour related violence.
