本書是專為初學英文的兒童所編寫之中英圖畫字典，收錄所有適合小朋友學習之3000個重要字彙，並附有生動活潑之插圖或照片以幫助理解，搭配內容的相關字、近義字、慣用語、諺語、字源等補充資料，學習成效加倍，英語能力倍增。

序言
In compiling the ACME Children’s Illustrated Dictionary, we were careful to consider vocabulary terms in several textbooks approved by the National Education Bureau to expand the vocabulary of beginner English students.
To explain and improve the students’ English grammar, we’ve included word functions (i.e. article, adjective, noun, verb, etc). In addition, proverbs, idioms, synonyms given for each word further expand the students’ ability to build sentences using the vocabulary terms.
Furthermore, we’ve included important phrases in the English language for select terms. These phrases are signified by a little icon. We’ve also utilized another icon, , to
represent important reminders and more in-depth explanations of terms. The vivid illustrations complement the sentences and the colorful pictures add to help make the book attractive and motivate children to actually use the dictionary.
In regards to the smooth completion of the dictionary, we would like to give a special
thanks to our revision editor, Mr. Crooks. His expansive knowledge of language and grammar and his experience with teaching English as a second language was vital to the compilation of this dictionary. We sincerely appreciate all the help he’ s given us.
Great deliberation and careful considerations went into compiling this children’s dictionary to make it the perfect reference book for all children who to learn English the fun and easy way.

為編纂這本兒童圖畫字典，我們參考了所有教育單位認可之優良兒童英語教材，藉以挑選出適合小朋友學習的重要單字，希望以本字典擴充英語初學者的基本字彙。
在內容方面，為了說明並加強讀者們的英文文法，我們列出每個單字的詞性（如：
冠詞、形容詞、名詞、動詞⋯等），部分單字並附有諺語、慣用語、近義字、相關字和字元等補充資料，除了可增進讀者對字彙的理解，更能幫助讀者記憶字彙，使初學者對單字的用法有更深入的理解。
此外，本字典所收錄的例句靈活、實用，可以提升讀者運用單字造句的能力；而重要片語部分，以符號表示，符號則表示重要的用法提醒，為單字做進一步的解釋。為引起讀者使用本字典的學習動機，我們以生動的插圖來補充說明例句，並附全彩照片，讓版面更活潑、更具吸引力。
對於本字典的順利完成，編輯小組特別要向負責審訂的Richard David Crooks老師致上十二萬分的謝意，Crooks老師豐富的經歷提供我們完成這本字典所需的專業指導和精闢見解，他在語言及文法上的淵博知識，以及豐富的英語教學經驗，是我們編輯字典時最不可或缺的幫助。
