The abyss is a crucial yet little studied notion in cultural history. It plays a major role particularly in the German history of ideas. This volume assembles 12 chapters and a substantial introduction about the abyss in German and Baltic cultures, in literature but also in theatre and digital games, and thus continues the work of the recently published volume on The Abyss as a Concept for Cultural Theory (Brill, 2024). By creating links to related notions and offering case studies, it sheds light on the analysed cultures and numerous aspects of this rich and truly unfathomable field of study. Der Abgrund ist ein f die Kulturgeschichte wesentlicher doch wenig erforschter Begriff. Gerade in der deutschen Geistesgeschichte spielt er eine bedeutende Rolle. Dieser Band versammelt 12 Beitr輍e und eine substantielle Einleitung zum Abgrund in deutscher und baltischer Kultur, in der Literatur, aber auch im Theater und in digitalen Spielen, und frt damit die Arbeit des kzlich erschienenen Bandes zum Abyss as a Concept for Cultural Theory (Brill, 2024) fort. Indem er Verbindungen zu 鄣nlich gelagerten Begriffen knft und Fallstudien bietet, wirft er Schlaglichter auf die untersuchten Kulturen und erhellt eine Vielfalt von Aspekten dieses so reichen und tats踄hlich unergrdlichen Bereichs.
